Discurso del señor embajador :
AMBASSADOR PHILEMON AROBAYA ON THE OCCASION OF THE 73RD ANNIVERSARY OF THE INDEPENDENCE
OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
Ambassador of Indonesia Excellency Mr. Philemon Arobaya
Your Excellency Señor Rodrigo Olsen, Director of the Asia Pacific Division of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile;
Your Excellency Señor Ivo Scapolo, Dean of Diplomatic Corps in Santiago, Chile;*
Honorable Mayors of Municipalities of Providencia and Vitacura;*
Excellencies Ambassadors and Colleagues of Diplomatic Corps;
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, Good Evening, Buenas Noches,
On behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the people of Indonesia, allow me to express to you my profound gratitude and appreciation for accepting our invitation and joining us today in celebrating the 73rd Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Seventy-three years ago, on 17 August 1945, our proclamators, on behalf of the
Indonesian people, President Soekarno and Vice President Mohammad Hatta, declared the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
This declaration, as a matter of fact, was a recognition of the fundamental right of every human being, namely the right of freedom… freedom out of any occupation… freedom of standing up equally with other nations… and freedom of getting the independence, politically and economically.
In a span of 73 years, Indonesia now has transformed into a modern economic entity with a solid democratic foundation, building the strength of its geopolitics to contribute to the world prosperity.
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Ever since its independence, Indonesia continues to put its best efforts in contributing to the maintenance of national, regional, and global peace and security.
Our “Independent and Active” foreign policy, as implied in our Constitution and the nation´s five principles of “Pancasila”, has driven us into a nation which takes no side with any world power and does not maintain a passive stand on international issues.
Instead, we seek for active participation to be part of the solution….a bridge builder…an honest broker….and a problem solver…
We are proud that we have gained trust to serve a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for period 2019-2020, in which we aim to synergize efforts to create peace with sustainable development.
We also have consistently served as an agent of peace.
Indonesia is now a major contributor of the UN peacekeepers. We currently deploy more than 2,800 troops and police personnel in various missions worldwide, and commit to increase it to 4,000 peacekeepers next year.
In term of economic development, we continue to grow towards positive direction. Our economy grows around 5.2% this year, despite the uncertain global economic situation.
With ease of doing business and political stability, Indonesia creates a positive climate as a destination country for foreign investment.
Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, We highly value our relationships with partner countries.
Indonesia and Chile have established diplomatic relations since September 1965. Our two countries, since then, have been enjoying cordial relations based on respect and mutual benefit principles.
For us, Chile is an important partner, which we prioritize as a potential non-traditional market to be explored, connecting us with Latin American region.
We have seen remarkable progress in our cooperation in bilateral and multilateral fora.
In regional and multilateral context, I am pleased to observe we share same views in addressing global challenges. Both of us are active in various international cooperation fora, such as APEC and FEALAC. We also have showed reciprocal supports for each other’s candidatures in international organizations.
With regards to economic aspect, there has been a sound progress through the signing of Indonesia-Chile Free Trade Agreement last December.
Total trade between us reached USD 301 million, growing almost 34% within 2016-2017. Our export volume to Chile also continues to increase, from USD 143 million to USD 158 million in the same period.
The IC-CEPA, which is the first bilateral trade agreement between Indonesia and South American country, I believe has high potentials to advance our economic and trade cooperation.
I am delighted to note, as well, how people-to-people ties are strengthening.
In order to close the information gap and increase awareness, Indonesian Embassy has regularly participated in national and international cultural events in Chile to promote
Indonesian culture and tourism to Chilean public.
We also believe that mutual understanding and lasting ties amongst people can be reached through education. Therefore, Indonesian Government is committed to provide scholarships, both Master and non-degree programs, for Chilean students. We feel honored that since 2010, we have received 10 Chileans through Darmasiswa Program to study our language, culture, and culinary in top universities in Indonesia.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On this special event, I am delighted to extend to you an invitation to attend the 33rd edition of Trade Expo Indonesia in Jakarta in 24-28 October. This annual fair… which involves more than 1,100 exhibitors and participated by around 28,000 visitors….showcases variety of export products from Indonesia, including crafts, furniture, food and beverages, machinery, and other strategic products and services.
With so many great strides made between our nations, I am confident that the relationship between us would continue to grow.
Now, I would like invite you all to raise the glasses and toast for the continued progress of our partnership and friendship.
May we keep progressing for the betterment of Indonesia-Chile relations for the purpose of prosperity and wellbeing of the people.
Viva Chile, Hidup Indonesia!
Thank you, Muchas Gracias
